Former Janata Dal (Secular) Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence for rape, was recently found with a mobile phone in his prison cell. The Crime Branch officials conducted a surprise raid at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru on August 11 and seized several items from Revanna's high-security barrack. Among them were the mobile phone containing several pornographic videos, a charger, a pen drive and a notebook.

The seized mobile phone and pen drive were sent for forensic analysis, which revealed the presence of dozens of porn videos on the phone and web series on the pen drive.
This incident has once again raised questions about special privileges accorded to "VIP" prisoners at Bengaluru's central prison.
Revanna is serving a life sentence after being convicted last year for raping a 48-year-old woman domestic help at his family's farmhouse in Hassan district.

The woman had accused Revanna of repeated sexual assault since 2021, claiming he recorded the acts and threatened to share the videos if she spoke out.
After the phone was recovered from Revanna's cell, a jail official was suspended, and an investigation was launched into how he got access to these devices.
Personal mobile phones, SIM cards, and electronic communication devices are strictly prohibited inside prisons in India.
