Tej Pratap booked for using police logo on private vehicle
What's the story
Tej Pratap Yadav, the chief of Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) and son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, has been booked for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Bihar. The incident occurred when he was filing his nomination papers from the Mahua assembly constituency on October 16. A viral video showed him using a vehicle with a police logo and beacon light during his nomination procession.
Investigation update
Police confirm vehicle was privately owned
The police confirmed that the vehicle used by Yadav was privately owned and not an official police vehicle. "It was thoroughly examined and found that the police logo and beacon light used on the vehicle were a private one," said a statement from the district police. "The vehicle...was found to be privately owned by Pramod Kumar Yadav, son of Siddhnath Singh...Installing police lights on a private vehicle is a serious and cognizable offense," DSP Raj Kumar Shah said.
Political background
Tej Pratap Yadav formed JJD after being expelled from RJD
Tej founded the JJD after his father expelled him from the RJD for six years in May. This expulsion came after he allegedly admitted to being "in a relationship" with a woman. He later deleted a Facebook post on the matter, claiming that his social media account was hacked and the post about his relationship with Anushka Yadav was a part of an attempt to defame him. However, in July, he confirmed his relationship with Anushka.
