Acharya's political journey and family dynamics
Acharya, a qualified doctor who chose to be a homemaker with her Singapore-based husband, had unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Saran. She was also in the news for donating a kidney to her father during his health challenges. Speculation was rife that she was unhappy over Tej Pratap Yadav's expulsion from RJD, but still campaigned for Tejashwi during the recent elections.
Election results
RJD's performance in Bihar assembly elections
The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan was decimated in the Bihar assembly elections, winning only 24 out of 243 seats. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) JD(U), won a whopping 202 seats. This was a major setback for the Congress and RJD, which saw its numbers dwindle from 75 to just 24 seats since the last election in 2020.
