AI replacing all jobs is 'just a matter of time': Expert
Yoshua Bengio, a major name in AI, says it's only a matter of time before most, and eventually all, jobs could be replaced by artificial intelligence.
On The Diary of a CEO podcast recently, he pointed out that keyboard-based jobs are already being disrupted, with Gen Z seeing slower hiring and increased pressure on junior roles thanks to automation.
Even hands-on jobs aren't safe
Bengio isn't just worried about desk jobs. He thinks physical gigs like plumbing could also be automated as robots get smarter from all the data they collect on the job.
Basically, no job is truly safe from AI in the long run.
Regrets and real worries
Bengio, who helped invent deep learning and won the Turing Award in 2018, admits he wishes he'd seen these risks coming sooner.
He's especially concerned after seeing AI systems that are resisting being shut down—and says he fears for his own grandson's future 20 years from now if things keep moving this fast.
Why Bengio matters
At 61, Bengio is one of the world's most influential AI scientists and leads Montreal's Mila institute.
His research paved the way for today's AI breakthroughs—even as he now pushes for more safety measures to protect future generations.
