Amazon tells engineers: No more 3rd-party AI tools, focus on Kiro

Technology

Amazon just told its software engineers to stop using outside AI tools and stick with Kiro, the company's own platform.
Announced on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, this move is all about boosting Amazon's edge against tech giants like Google and OpenAI.
While current third-party tools won't be cut off right away, no new ones will be added going forward.

What this means for developers

Engineers who've relied on popular tools like OpenAI Codex and Claude Code now have to switch gears—those platforms are officially on the "Do Not Use" list after a company-wide review.
Amazon wants its developers' feedback to help make Kiro better, hoping that focusing everyone on one tool will spark more innovation and keep their tech competitive.

Kiro's progress so far

Kiro launched in July and has already seen over 250,000 developers make around 300 million requests in just three months.
It's designed to help write cleaner code and set clear standards—now it'll be at the heart of Amazon's push for smarter AI solutions.
