Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urges embedded evaluators for AI monitoring
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, is pushing for stronger safety measures in AI.
He's suggesting "embedded evaluators," basically outside experts, to monitor AI systems and make sure companies follow safety rules and report any issues.
This idea comes as people worry about how fast AI is growing and whether it could cause real problems if left unchecked.
Amodei urges democratic AI accord
Amodei also wants the leading AI companies "within democratic countries" to agree on shared safety standards and slow down their race to build smarter AI.
He's encouraging the US government to help make these talks happen and issue a narrow waiver for certain kinds of safety conversations.
Globally, he thinks limiting China's access to powerful chips or semiconductor manufacturing equipment and cracking down on model distillation could slow China's progress enough to widen America's lead significantly over the next 3-5 years.
Amodei proposes deals, stresses safety 1st
He's even proposing deals with authoritarian countries to stop the use of AI for dangerous stuff like making biological weapons.
Amodei says building public trust is key: Safety has to come first if we want people on board with what AI can do.
