Apple was considering removing charging port from iPhone X: Reports
    Credits

According to reports, Apple was initially planning on removing the charging port from the iPhone X, which was launched in September last year. However, the idea wasn't executed because, during the development of the iPhone X, Apple realized that wireless charging technology isn't completely ready to replace traditional charging methods. Wireless charging is much slower and doesn't allow you to use your phone simultaneously.

Apple developing wireless charger that can charge 3 devices simultaneously

Further, removing the charging port from the iPhone X would have meant including a wireless charger in the package, which would have not only increased the overall price of the device but also, Apple wasn't ready with the technology by that time. Apple's wireless charging mat, the AirPower, is delayed. It was to release in June but is now expected to launch in September.

Apple is aiming towards a totally wireless future

It is not a secret that Apple eventually wants to remove all external ports and buttons on the iPhone and make it "a single sheet of glass." But are we ready for it? Removing the lightning port would mean a whole new set of wireless accessories have to be developed first. And how will we connect our phones to our laptops?

Apple, the harbinger of poor wireless design choices

In 2016, Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 and introduced its own wireless earphones called AirPods. They need to be charged separately, bought separately, and are more prone to getting lost. Other smartphones like the Google Pixel 2 followed suit and made removing the headphone jack a thing, but so far, it hasn't convenienced anyone except maybe the Bluetooth headphones market.

Wireless charging a slow, bulky affair

Notably, the iPhone X and iPhone 8 can still be wirelessly charged using external charging hubs from companies like Mophie and Belkin. Since wireless charging technology is not commonplace yet, you need to carry around wireless chargers with you everywhere you go.
