New AI-assisted income tax website for taxpayers goes live
What's the story
The Income Tax Department has launched a new user-friendly website to simplify Direct Tax-related processes. The platform brings all Income Tax-related information under one roof and features an AI chatbot 'Kar Saathi' for 24/7 taxpayer support. Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Ravi Agrawal had announced the launch of 'Kar Saathi' last month at the unveiling of 'PRARAMBH,' an initiative aimed at making the transition to the new Income Tax Act, 2025 smoother for taxpayers.

Transition from old to new tax law
The PRARAMBH initiative, which stands for Policy Reform and Responsible Action for Mission Viksit Bharat, is a major step in India's tax administration journey. Agrawal said the transition isn't just about a new law but also about ensuring clarity, simplicity, and confidence for taxpayers through notified rules, forms, and re-engineered processes. He also revealed that the number of rules has been reduced from 510 to 333 while forms have been cut from 399 to 190, nearly a 52% reduction.
