Demis Hassabis, the co-founder and chair of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, is joining voices calling for a slowdown in artificial intelligence development.
He's supporting a new proposal from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who says that while AI could do amazing things, like boost healthcare and the economy, it also risks getting out of control if we're not careful.

Demis Hassabis, co-founder and chair of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, called this "the right path forward," and he's not alone: OpenAI chief Sam Altman is on board with independent checks too, while Elon Musk, who runs xAI Corp. simply said, "Dario is right."
Even leaders like Former UK PM Rishi Sunak, who acts as an Advisor to Anthropic, and senior US senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders are urging governments to make AI safety a top priority.
