Firefly Aerospace announces 'Ocula' Moon-Imaging service
Firefly Aerospace just introduced "Ocula," a new moon imaging service designed to help future lunar missions and boost national security.
Ocula uses Elytra vehicles in lunar orbit, each carrying powerful telescopes built by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
TL;DR
Ocula captures images down to 0.2 meters
Ocula's telescopes snap super-clear images—down to 0.2 meters—from 50km above the lunar surface.
They capture both ultraviolet and visible light, making it easier to spot minerals and plan where to explore or mine next.
Ocula will initially piggyback on existing missions
At first, Ocula will piggyback on existing missions like Blue Ghost, offering affordable data for anyone who needs it fast.
Looking ahead, Firefly wants to take this tech beyond the Moon—think Mars and maybe even further.
