Global warming could hit 2.8degC by century's end: UN report

Technology

A new climate report says it's not too late to keep global warming below 1.5°C by 2100—but we're way off track right now.
Current plans are inadequate, and if we stick with them, the world could heat up by as much as 2.8°C.

Roadmap for emissions cuts

To avoid dangerous warming, the roadmap calls for cutting emissions by about 20% before 2030 and then keeping up strong annual reductions through the next decade.
If we pull this off, peak warming could be limited to around 1.7°C and brought back down to safer levels by century's end.

Critical action needed now

If temperatures go past that critical mark, we'll see more extreme weather, damaged ecosystems, and lasting impacts—like melting ice sheets and dying rainforests—that would affect everyone's future.
The message: quick action now can still make a real difference for our planet.
