Gemini app update brings dark mode and new features
What's the story
Google has given its Gemini app a major makeover, bringing a new look to the homepage and conversations. The revamped design, which was last updated in September, is now available on Android devices. The changes include a larger "Gemini" logo in the app bar and an updated navigation drawer with a new "My Stuff" section.
Feature additions
New features and design elements in Gemini app
The homepage of the Gemini app now features a greeting followed by "Where should we start?" The capability tools have been rearranged into a list, including options like Create image, Write anything, Build an idea, Deep Research, and Create video. The dark theme has also been updated with Google switching from gray to black, though the prompt box and full-page conversations remain unchanged, resulting in a curious dual-tone look.
User experience
'My Stuff' section and conversation changes
The updated navigation drawer now features a "My Stuff" section, where users can view their generated images, videos, and Canvas works. The last three creations are displayed in rounded squares, with an option to view them all in a fullscreen feed. As for conversations on mobile devices, the top-right corner has replaced the account switcher with a new chat button.
Feature enhancement
Enhanced conversation management in Gemini app
The name of the conversation now acts as a dropdown menu, offering options to share, pin, rename, or delete conversations. These features were previously only accessible through the navigation drawer. The changes are part of Google's ongoing efforts to improve user experience and make its apps more intuitive and easy to use.
