Google Messages just got smarter (and more fun) with new AI features

Technology

Google Messages is rolling out fresh updates as part of Android's December Feature Drop, making chats smoother and a bit more playful.
The standout: Nano Banana Remix, which lets you create AI-generated images in RCS chats using your own prompts.

Group chats and photos feel easier now

New group chat alerts show exactly who's in the conversation and make it simple to leave, block, or report with one tap.
The image viewer also got a glow-up—think blurred backgrounds, easy swipe navigation, and full-size previews for your pics.

Try out Nano Banana Remix and better mentions

Nano Banana Remix is available daily in English across Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and the US—just type a prompt in an RCS chat to generate fun AI images.
Plus, group chats now support @mentions that even notify muted users so no one misses out.

Safety tweaks and accessibility upgrades

Read receipts are easier to spot with new white backgrounds on message bubbles.
The voice recorder now cancels background noise, making messages clearer (and maybe a little more caring).
