Google News audio briefing now on Android: Listen to news, hands-free

Technology

Google just rolled out its new Audio Briefing feature for Android users in the US.
As of December 17, you can catch up on trending news stories in audio form—AI-generated audio hosts—right from the Google News app.
The pilot is in partnership with big publishers and aims to make staying informed even easier.

How it works: Quick news recaps, your way

Head to the "Listen" tab in Google News to hear AI-generated audio discussions of top stories.
You can adjust playback speed, skip ahead or back, and jump between topics.
Each briefing links directly to the full article if you want more details, and there's a feedback option so you can let Google know how the AI did.

Sourced from trusted publishers, built for multitasking

Briefings pull content from major outlets like The Guardian, Washington Post, Der Spiegel, and El Pais.
Right now it's available for eligible US Android users (version 5.146.x), but more regions are expected soon.
You can keep listening while using other apps thanks to a handy mini-player.

Why this matters: Smarter news for busy lives

This pilot is all about testing how AI can make news more accessible and transparent—with clear source links every time.
No subscription or purchase needed; just open the app and listen whenever you want.
