What's the story

As the successor to Honor V10, Huawei-backed Honor has launched the Honor V20 aka View 20 smartphone in China. The key highlights of the phone are its in-screen camera design, full-HD+ bezel-less display, flagship Kirin 980 chipset, upto 8GB RAM and a mighty 48MP rear camera. In China, the V20 starts at 2,999 yuan or roughly Rs. 30,400. Here's our detailed coverage.

Honor V20: At a glance

Up front, the Honor V20 sports an in-screen selfie camera to offer a bezel-less 6.4-inch full-HD+ (1080x2310 pixels) display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The camera cut-out, measuring just 4.5mm, is significantly smaller than Galaxy A8s' 6.7mm hole. Further, the glass-like rear panel flaunts a glossy gradient finish and houses a horizontally-stacked dual rear-camera setup as well as the good old fingerprint scanner.

Honor V20 packs a massive 48MP rear camera

The Honor V20 sports a dual rear-camera setup comprising a 48MP (f/1.8) Sony IMX586 sensor, paired with a 3D Time of Flight (ToF) sensor to capture the depth details. The main camera comes with 4-in-1 pixel binning technology, AI HDR and supports slow-motion video recording at 960fps. Up front, the phone packs a 25MP selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture and fixed focus support.

Under the hood

The phone is powered by the 7nm octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor, coupled with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of non-expandable internal storage. It runs Android Pie-based Magic UI 2.0.1 out-of-the-box and packs a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support. Further, Honor V20 also comes with performance-boosting GPU Turbo 2.0 technology and Link Turbo which intelligently combines Wi-Fi and LTE connections for faster downloads.

Connectivity options and sensors onboard Honor V20

In terms of connectivity options, the phone gets support for dual SIMs (Nano), Bluetooth v5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4GHz and 5GHz), GPS/A-GPS, and USB Type-C port. Honor is touting an AI-based dual-band GPS technology which aims to provide more accurate positioning. Lastly, sensors on board the Honor V20 include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, and a proximity sensor.

Pricing and availability

Honor V20 is priced at CNY 2,999 (Rs. 30,400) for the 6GB/128GB model and CNY 3,499 (Rs. 35,500) for the 8GB/128GB option. There's also a Moschino Edition with 8GB/256GB configuration. The phone comes in Red, Blue, Black colors and will go on sale starting December 28 in China. Further, Honor V20 will globally launch as Honor View 20 on January 22 in Paris.
