IIT-Madras, Monash University unveil new way to target breast cancer

Technology

Researchers from IIT Madras, Monash University, and Deakin University have developed a smart drug delivery system that zeroes in on breast cancer cells.
Their tech delivers the chemo drug doxorubicin directly to tumors while sparing healthy cells—aiming for fewer side effects and a more focused treatment.

Why this matters

The new method uses nano-sized carriers and silicon nanotubes to boost effectiveness.
In lab tests, it killed cancer cells much better than regular doxorubicin—working at 23 times lower doses and leaving healthy cells mostly untouched.
The team hopes this breakthrough could lead to safer, more affordable treatments after further testing.
