India hit by 265 million cyberattacks in 2025
India faced a huge spike in cyberattacks this year—265 million in total, says Quick Heal's latest Cyber Threat Report.
The biggest surge came right after Operation Sindoor, when India struck terror sites in Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.
Operation Sindoor sparked major hack waves
Around May 7, pro-Pakistan hacktivists launched about 1.5 million attacks targeting Indian systems.
These included DDoS hits that took down the President's website for 19 hours and hammered the national power grid with about 200,000 attempts.
Even BSNL's site was knocked offline twice.
Global breaches and AI-powered hacks on the rise
2025 wasn't just rough for India—globally, a June data leak exposed 16 billion login records.
Jaguar Land Rover paused production after a costly cyberattack, and Volkswagen saw data from 800,000 EV users compromised.
Attackers are now using AI tools like Kimsuky's phishing chatbots and Anthropic's Claude to automate their hacks.
Why it matters
Weekly cyberattacks jumped by nearly half this year, averaging almost 2,000 per organization worldwide.
With more attacks powered by AI and aimed at critical infrastructure, digital security is becoming everyone's business—not just for techies or big companies anymore.
