Samsung's A-series smartphones may soon cost more in India
What's the story
Samsung's popular mid-range smartphone lineup, the Galaxy A series, is likely to see a price hike in India. The news comes from tipster Abhishek Yadav who claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that the price increase will take effect starting Monday. Most models in the range are expected to witness an increase of around ₹1,000 while the high-end Galaxy A56 could become costlier by up to ₹2,000.
Price confirmation
No official confirmation from Samsung yet
Despite the tip, there is no official word from Samsung on the alleged price hike. The company's India website still lists the Galaxy A56 5G at its original launch prices. The device starts at ₹41,999 for the base 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant and goes up to ₹47,999 for higher-end models with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
Price hike reasons
Rising memory chip prices could be a factor
The potential price hike comes as a surprise, considering smartphone brands usually drop prices of existing models as new ones near their launch. However, Samsung seems to be doing the opposite by raising prices ahead of its next Galaxy A-series launches. One possible reason for this move could be the rising cost of memory chips globally due to increased demand for newer technologies like DDR5 and high-bandwidth memory for AI servers and advanced computing.
