Scammers using AI clone family voices to ask for money
Technology
Scammers are now using AI to clone voices and pretend to be someone you trust, often a family member, in urgent calls asking for money.
All they need is a short audio clip from your social media, voice notes, or public recordings, along with personal context, and suddenly their fake emergency sounds just like the real thing.
Ask verification questions or call back
If you get a weird or urgent call from someone claiming to be family, pause and double-check.
Ask questions only they'd know or hang up and call them back on their usual number.
To lower your risk, avoid posting clear voice clips online and keep personal information private.
Setting up bank alerts can also help catch anything suspicious early.
