Scientists just discovered three new kinds of rove beetles in Arunachal Pradesh: Megalopinus arunachalensis, Megalopinus mithun, and Megalopinus micros.
The find was announced this week and highlights how much is still unknown about the region's wildlife.
The research was a team effort between Rajiv Gandhi University and Germany's University of Tubingen.
Researchers urge protection of Arunachal habitats
These beetles were spotted in forest areas like Pakke Tiger Reserve and Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, hiding out in decaying wood and damp leaves.
Researchers say these habitats are fragile and need protection. They also believe there are many more species waiting to be discovered here, making conservation even more important for the future.
