Stardust Solutions raised $60 million to release particles into atmosphere
Stardust Solutions, a startup based in Israel and the US announced it had raised $60 million in October to try cooling the planet by releasing special particles into the atmosphere, basically copying what volcanoes do to block some sunlight.
The idea sounds bold, but it's already raising eyebrows over possible long-term environmental risks and who gets to decide how it's used.
Scientists uneasy over stardust tech sales
Some scientists are uneasy because Stardust hasn't shared details about its tech, even though it plans to sell it to governments.
CEO Yanai Yedvab says acting quickly on climate change is crucial. He's pushing for global rules, like with past environmental treaties.
Still, earlier geoengineering projects have faced public pushback, so Stardust may have some convincing to do before everyone's on board.
