#SmartphonesFaceOff: Nokia 7 Plus vs Vivo V9 vs OPPO F7
With a slew of smartphones entering the Indian market, choosing your next smartphone has become a daunting task. In our today's #SmartphonesFaceoff, we pit against one another, the recently launched Nokia 7 Plus (Rs. 25,999) , Vivo V9 (Rs. 22,990) and OPPO F7 (Rs. 21,990). Notably, we compare the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variants while restricting to a budget of under Rs. 26,000.
At a glance
In terms of looks, up against its rivals, the Nokia 7 Plus has a lot to catch up. While both F7 and V9 have embraced the notch, Nokia 7 Plus has settled for thick lower and upper chins- a design of the past. Further, between Vivo V9 and OPPO F7, V9 is an obvious winner, given it also offers a dual-rear camera unlike F7.
All about the screen
In terms of display, all three phones feature LCD panels. However, V9 and F7 have taller displays - thanks to the notch. Nokia 7 Plus features a 6-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio while both Vivo V9 and OPPO F7 sport 6.3-inch full-HD+ (1080x2280 pixels) IPS displays with 19:9 aspect ratio. With 'Full-view' taller displays, it's again either V9 or F7.
For the shutterbugs
OPPO F7, with its single 16-MP, f/1.8 aperture fails to do what its competitors can. Further, while Vivo V9 gets a 16-MP, f/2.0 primary sensor and a 5-MP, f/2.4 secondary sensor, the Nokia 7 Plus is a clear winner here. It has a primary 12-MP, f/1.75 wide-angle sensor and a secondary 13-MP, f/1.75 sensor, ZEISS optics, 2X optical zoom and dual-tone LED flash.
For the love of selfies
All the three phones offer competitive specs along with AI-powered features. The Nokia 7 Plus offers a 16-MP fixed focus camera with f/2.0 aperture and ZEISS optics while Vivo V9 gets a 24-MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and Ultra-HDR mode. Perhaps, by slight margin, OPPO F7 trumps its rivals with its 25-MP CMOS sensor, f/2.0 aperture and real-time HDR capabilities.
All the important stuff
All the three phones have a 64-bit Octa-core SoC processor with 4GB/64GB storage option (expandable up to 256GB via microSD card). The Nokia 7 Plus is powered by Snapdragon 660 while the Vivo V9 gets Snapdragon 626 and OPPO F7 runs on MediaTek Helio P60 SoC. Notably, Snapdragon 660 offers higher clock speeds and better graphic rendering than P60.
Staying connected
Both OPPO F7 and Vivo V9 feature Bluetooth v4, Wi-Fi, 4G VoLTE, USB OTG, and GPS/A-GPS while packing a 3,400mAh battery and 3,260mAh battery respectively. However, in terms of battery and connectivity, the Nokia 7 Plus outshines its competitors. The smartphone supports Bluetooth v5.0, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, USB Type-C (2.0), and a 3,800mAh battery with fast charging.
How things stack up
The Nokia 7 Plus features a more efficient processor, has better optics and connectivity options along with stock Android experience. But the trade-offs are price and an old design. On the other hand, both V9 and F7 sport a modern look while packing standard internals. Between F7 and V9, V9 wins because of the camera features. So, it is either V9 or Nokia 7 Plus.
