Dhoni nominated for Padma Bhushan
BCCI has nominated Mahendra Singh Dhoni for Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award. Reportedly the cricket board only named Dhoni for this year's Padma awards and the decision to nominate him was unanimous. The former Indian captain has already been honoured with Arjuna, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Padma Shri awards, for his contribution to cricket. Let us know more about his achievements.
MSD has scored 9737 runs in 302 ODIs, and 4876 runs from 90 Test matches. In his career, he has slammed 16 international 100s- 10 in ODIs and 6 in Tests, and 99 half-centuries- 66 in ODIs, 33 in Tests.
As a captain, MS Dhoni led India to victories in three ICC Championships between 2007 to 2013. He led the team successfully to the World T20 (2007), the Champions Trophy (2013) and the World Cup (2011) titles. He is the only captain to achieve this feat. Under his captaincy, India also became the number one ranked Test Team for the first time in 2009.
As a wicketkeeper, Dhoni has the distinct record for most stumpings in ODI cricket history, 101 stumpings in 302 matches.
With 27 test victories, Dhoni is the most successful captain in the Indian cricketing history. His 183-run innings in 2005 against SL is the highest score by a wicket-keeper. Dhoni has led Indian team in 331 international matches and has hit 204 sixes, the most by any captain in the world. His score of 224 in Tests is the second-highest by an Indian captain.
