What's the story
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to extend Mohammad Ashraful's role as the batting coach. Initially, he was appointed for just the home series against Ireland. However, BCB's cricket operations chairman confirmed that the former national captain will continue in his role beyond this series, as per Cricbuzz. Ashraful will also be part of the team management for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and is likely to get another extension after it ends.

Nazmul, the BCB chairman of cricket operations, spoke highly of Ashraful's coaching potential. He said, "It's his early days as a coach, but I've been hearing him talk for a long time." Nazmul added that Ashraful has the qualities needed for coaching and is genuinely passionate about it. He also confirmed that Mohammad Salahuddin will continue as senior assistant coach after his resignation was not accepted and he changed his mind post discussions with senior officials.

Nazmul also revealed the BCB's new policy of adopting a flexible approach to coaching roles. He said, "Our policy now will be that no matter who the coach is, whether a foreign coach of the national team or a local coach, we will use them in different roles." This means coaches could be assigned to different teams depending on their availability and what is needed at that time.
