BCCI not to send any notice to ICC: Vinod Rai

The BCCI's Committee of Administrators' (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai clearly stated that the BCCI will not send any notice to the ICC and the decision to pull out of the Champions Trophy will be taken at the Special General Meeting, scheduled on 07 May. Rai stated that BCCI will need prior approval of the CoA before sending out any legal notices.

BCCI threatens to pull out of Champions Trophy

Ever since ICC denied BCCI the lion's share of the global revenue, the Indian board is contemplating pulling out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held this June in England and Wales. At the recent ICC Board meeting, BCCI lost the vote by a margin of 1-9 when the new revenue model was put to vote.

10 state associations back BCCI's stand on Champions Trophy

The BCCI held a teleconference call with the state bodies to get support for pulling out of the Champions Trophy next month. Reportedly, 10 of the 30 state associations have backed the board's move to pull-out of the ICC event.

BCCI gets ready to send legal notice to ICC

Reportedly, BCCI has brought in a leading United Kingdom law firm to send a legal notice to the ICC. BCCI looks to terminate the Members Participation Agreement (MPA), after the ICC allowed changes in the agreement without the approval of Indian cricket body. The Indian cricket board claims that ICC made policy and governance changes in the MPA, thereby violating the contract.

What is Members Participation Agreement (MPA)?

The MPA is an eight year agreement and was signed in 2014. The MPA assures benefits to the members who will participate in the ICC tournaments held between 2015-2023. If BCCI terminates the MPA, India will be unable to participate in ICC tournaments till 2023.

What will BCCI lose if it revokes the MPA?

If BCCI revokes the MPA, it will lose itss participation in the ICC Champions Trophy (2017, 2021), Women's World Cup (2017, 2021), Women's World T20 (2018, 2020, 2022), Men's World T20 (2020), U-19 Cricket WC (2018, 2020, 2022) and ICC Test Championship (2021). India will also not be able to participate or host Men's World Cup in 2019 and 2023.
