Babar Azam equals this dismal record of Virat Kohli: Stats
What's the story
Pakistan's cricket captain, Babar Azam, has equaled an unwanted record held by Indian superstar Virat Kohli. The record in question is the most innings played without scoring a century in international cricket. Babar's wait for a three-figure score extended to 83 innings after he was dismissed for just 29 runs against Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI of their series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Hasaranga's brilliance outsmarts Babar
Babar started his innings on a promising note, hitting two boundaries early on. However, the Sri Lankan spinners soon tightened their grip on him. Just as he looked set to rebuild Pakistan's innings, Wanindu Hasaranga bowled a brilliant googly that spun sharply from outside off and hit the top of the off-stump. Babar was left stunned by the delivery and had no choice but to walk back after a brief moment of disbelief. He scored a 51-ball 29.

Babar's last international century came during the 2023 Asia Cup against Nepal. He has now gone without a three-figure score for 83 innings. This has put him on par with Kohli in terms of the most innings played sans a century in international cricket. Among Asian players, Sanath Jayasuriya leads this list with a similar drought that ended after 87 innings.
