What's the story

The Faridabad Police Crime Branch is questioning three more doctors from Al Falah University in connection with the blast near Red Fort in Delhi. This comes as three doctors, Muzammil Shakeel, Umar Mohammed, and Shaheen Shahid, are under scrutiny for their possible links to terrorist activities related to this blast. Muzammil and Shaheen have already been arrested. The blast, which killed nine and injured over 20 people, has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Investigation progress

Evidence collected from university

On Tuesday morning, Delhi Police Crime Branch officials visited Al-Falah University to collect evidence. They reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed university staff about the three doctors. According to investigations, Muzammil and Umar are from Kashmir, while Shaheen is from Lucknow, and all three worked at the Faridabad hospital. A day prior, about 2,900 kg of bomb-making material and other suspicious materials were found in two apartments rented by Muzammil. This is despite the fact that he was staying on campus.

Additional discoveries

Shaheen linked to Jaish women's wing

In the ensuing investigation, assault rifles and ammunition were also recovered from a car registered under Shaheen's name. Muzammil and Shaheen are colleagues. Investigators discovered that Shaheen was in charge of the India wing of Jaish-e-Mohammed women's wing, Jamaat ul-Mominaat. This new faction is headed by Sadia Azhar, sister of Jaish founder Masood Azhar.

Suspected role

Umar suspected to have driven explosive-laden car

Umar, who was also employed at Al-Falah and was close to Muzammil, is suspected to have been driving the car that exploded near a traffic signal. Investigators are probing if Umar carried out a suicide attack after authorities focused on Muzammil and the explosives recovery. Apart from the trio, the Delhi Police Special Cell has detained several suspects for questioning in connection with the Red Fort blast, officials said.
