CSK, RR in talks for Jadeja-Samson swap: Report

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are reportedly in active negotiations for a high-profile player trade, as per Cricbuzz. The deal, which would see Ravindra Jadeja head to RR in exchange for Sanju Samson, has gained traction over the last few days. Both players are valued at ₹18 crore each, making this potential swap significant due to the high-profile nature and valuation of the players.

RR not keen on straight swap
Despite the high-profile nature of the deal, RR are not keen on a straight swap. The franchise is said to be pushing for an additional player to be included in the trade, which could become a major sticking point. RR are reportedly exploring all possibilities and have kept communication open with other franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Player demand
Brevis's inclusion could be a deal-breaker
The inclusion of South African cricketer Dewald Brevis, who joined CSK midway through last season, is said to be a potential deal-breaker. Since then, Brevis has become one of the top batters in the global franchise circuit. He even attracted a record bid from Pretoria Capitals at the SA20 auction in September. However, CSK has remained firm on its stance not to include another player in the transaction.

CSK and RR are exploring all possibilities
Ahead of the retention deadline on November 15, CSK are expected to hold talks with key team members including CEO Kasi Viswanathan, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, and coach Stephen Fleming. The franchise has already consulted Jadeja before initiating trade talks. Meanwhile, RR owner Manoj Badale has been exploring all possibilities for the trade and has spoken to multiple teams including LSG, KKR, DC as well as CSK.

Notably, Samson, who has been leading RR since the 2021 season, has been a prolific performer for them. Having played 149 IPL games for RR, Samson has scored 4,027 runs at an average of 31.70. The tally includes 23 fifties, a couple of tons. On the other hand, Jadeja has been a key player for CSK since his debut for the franchise in 2012. The southpaw has scored 2,198 runs for CSK at 28.54 besides taking 143 wickets at 28.32.
