Rahul Dravid decodes CSK's success and failure of RCB

Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid feels the experience of Chennai Super Kings' owners gives them the edge over other franchises in the Indian Premier League. According to Dravid, CSK's scouting system has been top-notch, while Royal Challengers Bangalore have never managed to pick the right squad and set the balance. Here is what the 47-year-old stated about the two teams.

CSK have always had the advantage, says Dravid

"When they got into the IPL, Chennai probably had an advantage over a lot of other franchises because their owners, India Cements, were already in the business of running cricket teams. Bangalore have never balanced their team very well," Dravid said.

The RCB team combination lacks balance

Dravid believes the inability of RCB to set the equilibrium has adversely affected their performance. The Virat Kohli-led franchise hasn't qualified for the playoffs since 2016 edition. "They had their best year when they had a bowler like Mitchell Starc who was able to close out games for them," he said. He added, "But they kept going out and picking gun batsmen."

Foreign players add spark to CSK bench

The three-time IPL winners were crowned champions in 2018 following their return from the ban. However, they fell one run short to lift the trophy last year. According to Dravid, CSK have abundance of overseas players, who know how to performer under pressure. The likes of Shane Watson, Imran Tahir, Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis bring plenty of experience to the table.

CSK have stronger bowling than RCB

Dravid asserted that the Dhoni-led side bank big-time on the bowling strength, which lets them outclass the oppositions. "That's where Chennai have always been successful because they've often had stronger bowling than Bangalore," said Dravid. He added, "For RCB, you always felt they will be chasing a gun death bowler. Then the first thing you realise is they've spent 15 crores on Yuvraj Singh."

CSK always keep the core intact: Dravid

"There are a lot of foreign players available for four slots. But there are a limited number of quality Indian players available. CSK have been able to get some of the best guys has meant that they have always had that core," Dravid added.
