What's the story

India's explosive left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma has become the fastest batter to score 1,000 runs in T20 internationals by balls faced (among full-member team players). He achieved the milestone in just 528 balls during the fifth India-Australia match at The Gabba on Saturday. Here we look at the fastest Indian batters to complete 1,000 T20I runs in terms of innings taken.

KL Rahul - 29 innings

At number three, we have KL Rahul, who took a total of 29 innings to attain the landmark of 1,000 T20I runs. Until the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, Rahul was a mainstay top-order batter for Team India in T20I cricket. In 72 T20Is, Rahul owns 2,265 runs at an average of 37.75. His strike rate goes past 139. The star batter also has two tons and 22 half-centuries to his name.

Abhishek Sharma - 28 innings

Abhishek comes second on this list, having taken 28 innings to attain the massive landmark. Overall, he has raced to 1,012 runs from 29 games at an average of 37.48. His tally includes two tons besides six fifties (SR: 189.51). The young opener owns the record for the highest individual score for India in men's T20Is, having scored a staggering 135(54) against England earlier this year.

#1

Virat Kohli - 27 innings

Batting talisman Virat Kohli holds the Indian record for the fastest to complete T20I 1,000 runs, having taken just 27 innings. The star batter retired from T20 Internationals after powering India to the T20 World Cup last year. Kohli bowed out with 4,188 runs from 125 T20Is at a remarkable average of 48.69. His tally includes a ton, 38 half-centuries, and a strike rate of 137.04. Notably, he was the first batter to complete 4,000 T20I runs.
