EPL: Gary Neville would have a perfect year if Liverpool...

Former Manchester United legend Gary Neville cheekily said that he would have a perfect year if Liverpool give up their strong lead in the Premier League this season. Neville had enjoyed the upper hand with United against The Reds during his glory days. He sincerely hopes that Liverpool mess things up and don't win the title. Here is what he said.

It would be the most incredible experience to watch: Neville

"If they blow it now, it's going to be one of the best years I've had on Sky! Honestly, it would be the most incredible experience to watch this unfold and for them have a 12-point lead and then it dissipates," said Neville to talkSPORT.

Liverpool currently lead by eight points, stay atop the table

Considering Liverpool's performance this season, it has certainly been phenomenal. As of now, they maintain an eight-point lead on top from second-placed Leicester City. Liverpool have so far registered 14 wins in 15 league matches they have played, while they are yet to lose a game. They have managed to draw just a game, which incidentally happened against United.

Liverpool and United share a rich rivalry

The reason for Neville's comments are obvious as Liverpool share a rich rivalry with United. Before United became the club they are today, Liverpool were the undisputed kings of England. After United appointed Sir Alex Ferguson as their manager, his 27-year reign at the club changed everything, as they overtook Liverpool and became England's new champions.

United considerably ahead of Liverpool in head-to-head

As far as the head-to-head clash between the sides is concerned, United have traditionally dominated them. So far, in 231 competitive matches between the two, United have managed to win 88, while Liverpool have won 76. In the Premier League, the sides have played 55 matches against each other to date, with United winning on 28 occasions, while Liverpool have won 14.

Liverpool continued to conquer Europe as United prevailed in England

While Liverpool's last EPL title win came in 1989-90, since then they are still in the hunt for another title. However, they have managed to dominate Europe on three occasions (2 UEFA Champions League and a Europa League) since then. As for United, while their last EPL title win was in 2012-13, they managed to win their last European competition in 2016-17 (Europa League).
