Most kids in Pakistan dream of becoming the next Wasim Akram for their country. Some become nothing, while some become fast bowlers. Then there are the others who become spinners. Imad Wasim is one of the latter. A left-handed batsman and a left-arm spinner, Wasim has become a crucial part of the Pakistan team in limited-overs cricket. He was part of the Pakistan team that won the U-19 World Cup in 2006. In the subsequent edition, he led the team to the semis. His international debut, however, came only in 2015. Until then, he plied his trade in English and Irish leagues. He was named in the Pakistan team after the suspension of Saeed Ajmal and Mohammed Hafeez for suspicious bowling actions. He debuted for Pakistan in a T20I against Zimbabwe. Wasim soon became an important part of the Pakistan T20I squad. His fifer against the West Indies in 2016 became the first five-wicket haul by a Pakistan spinner. He was a vital cog in the Pakistan team that won the 2017 Champions Trophy. He later won Pakistan's T20 Player of the Year award in the same year.
