Superlatives fall short when used to describe former South African cricketer Jacques Kallis. One of the greatest players to ever play the game, the numbers Kallis made during his career will continue to baffle cricket aficionados. A whopping 13,289 runs and 292 wickets in Tests, 11,579 runs and 273 wickets in ODIs, and 200 and 131 catches in both formats, respectively, what Kallis did in a cricket field was otherworldly. He made his international debut against England in a Test match in 1995. In a Test against Australia in 1997 at the MCG, Kallis showed the preview of what's to come with a gritty match-saving century. Technically sound, strong on both feet, a repertoire of every shot in the book, and a majestic cover drive—Kallis was the engine that made the South Africa team function for most of his career. He is the only player with the double of 10,000 runs and 250 wickets in Test and ODI cricket. In the early stages of his career, Kallis was a bowler with pace, swing, and bounce. Toward the latter stages, however, he branded himself as a partnership breaker. Kallis retired from Test cricket in 2013 and every other format in 2014.
