Mark Verdon Boucher is a former South African wicket-keeper and right-handed batsman, and a coach of the South Africa cricket team, who is regarded as one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen of all time in cricket history. Born on December 3, 1976, he was trained by English coach Richard Pybus. He made his international Test debut in 1997 against Pakistan. As of 2021, he holds the record for maximum dismissals (555) by a wicketkeeper in Test cricket and the most dismissals (999) by a wicketkeeper in all forms of cricket. Boucher is regarded as a highly consistent performer in all three forms of cricket. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in January 1998 and T20 International debut against New Zealand. He has played 467 international matches. As of 2021, he holds the record for taking most catches as a wicket-keeper in all forms of cricket (952), most byes conceded by a wicketkeeper in T20 International innings, and has played the most T20 innings without a career duck (76). He was named 2017 Coach of the Year at the annual awards organized by Cricket South Africa. He was conferred with the South Africa Player of the Year Award in 1998, 2000, 2006 and the Wisden Cricketer of the Year Award in 2009. He retired in 2012 following an eye injury.
