Hailing from Faridabad, Mohit Sharma was an unknown entity to anyone outside Haryana as he rose through age-group cricket. Standing tall at 5ft 11, Sharma broke into the scene with his performance in the 2012-2013 Ranji season. Sharma made his first-class debut against Gujarat in the 2011-2012 Ranji season. Although he did not make much of an impact, in the season that followed he starred for Haryana with 37 wickets in 8 matches. His performances earned him an IPL contract with the Chennai Super Kings for the 2013 season. Entrusted with the new ball duties by MS Dhoni, he had a stellar season with 20 wickets. He bettered his tally in the next season with 23 wickets and won the purple cap. With his bustling pace and his ability to consistently bowl outside the off-stump, Sharma was a captain’s dream. Sharma made his international debut against Zimbabwe in an ODI and was adjudged man-of-the-match for 2/26 in 10 overs. His best performance in the national colors came in the 2015 World Cup where he finished as India’s third-best wicket-taker.
