What's the story

South African pacer Ottneil Baartman, who was named in the ODI squad for the upcoming five-match series against Australia, has suffered an injury. The incident took place during the first round of red-ball matches this season. Baartman bowled just five overs for the Dolphins and did not bat in their second innings. Notably, the series gets underway on September 24.

Injury status

Update on Baartman's condition expected on Sunday morning

The exact nature of Baartman's injury remains unclear, as there was no official announcement from the ground.

However, according to Cricinfo, an update on his condition is expected to be released on Sunday morning.

This development comes as South Africa's cricketing community hopes for the speedy recovery of their star player ahead of the ODI series against Australia later this month.

Baartman has played six ODIs so far, claiming eight wickets at 27.62.

Another injury

Rabada ruled out of upcoming ODIs

Baartman's injury isn't the only concern for South Africa's ODI squad.

Kagiso Rabada has already been ruled out of the upcoming ODIs with a hamstring concern.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has not given an estimated recovery time for Rabada, leaving his availability for the three-Test series starting October 9 uncertain.

Pace pack concerns

Ngidi's fitness also under scrutiny

Along with Baartman and Rabada, another member of South Africa's pace attack, Lungi Ngidi, is also under the scanner.

He bowled 16.3 overs for Titans against Dolphins but left the field during Dolphins's second innings.

Although he returned later in the match, his absence from bowling has raised questions about his fitness ahead of the ODI series against Australia.
