Pakistan vs Australia: Mitchell Marsh suffers hip injury
The Australian cricket team has been hit with a major blow ahead of the white-ball series against Pakistan. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out owing to a hip injury. Cameron Green has been roped in as Marsh's replacement. Green was a vital cog in Australia's historic just concluded Test series win over Pakistan. Marsh's availability in the IPL 2022 season can be doubtful.
Why does this story matter?
Marsh is one of Australia's mainstays in the limited-overs. He suffered a hip injury in a fielding drill. His unavailability could pose a threat to Delhi Capitals' shot at the title. They have only seven foreign players in their squad. They could field only two against MI (Tim Seifert and Rovman Powell). The remaining players are serving either quarantine or national commitments.
Aaron Finch's statement on Mitchell Marsh's injury
"We think he's injured his hip flexor. We are going to have to wait and see what that looks like but I don't think he'll be available for the series based on how he was feeling yesterday," Finch was reported saying as per ESPNcricinfo. Finch further asserted that middle-order batter Cameron Green, 22, will replace him in the side.
A look at Mitchell Marsh's limited-overs career in numbers
Marsh has made 63 ODIs appearances so far. The all-rounder has scored 1,673 runs and picked 50 scalps to his name. In T20Is, he has amassed 885 runs and 15 wickets in 36 matches. He was adjudged as the Player of the Match in the 2021 T20 World Cup final against New Zealand. He hammered 77* off 50 deliveries (six fours, four sixes).
Cameron Green to replace Mitchell Marsh in the squad
Batting all-rounder Cameron Green will replace Marsh in the upcoming white-ball matches against Pakistan. The right-hander scored 159 runs against Pakistan in the recently concluded Test series, with a match-winning 79 in the must-win Test at the Gadaffi Stadium. He has played just one ODI (vs India, 2020) in which he scored 21. He is yet to debut in T20Is.
