A master of swing bowling, Praveen Kumar’s name will be forever etched in India’s cricketing fables. No Indian fan can forget India’s disastrous 2011 tour of England. Praveen was the only bright light in those dark hours and his name on Lord’s honors board is a testament to his heroics. Hailing from Meerut, Praveen was a quintessential medium-pacer from the subcontinent whose speed was nothing special. It was, however, his ability to swing the ball that made him special. It wasn’t surprising that he was called 'jaadugar' back in Meerut. Praveen made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2005-2006 Ranji season. He baffled cricket observers with his 41 wickets. His international debut came against Pakistan in an ODI in 2007. His most memorable performances came in the 2007-2008 CB Series where he played an important role in India’s victory. Praveen’s record overseas made him a mainstay in the Indian lineup. He made his Test debut against West Indies in 2011. As injuries plagued his career and stopped him from achieving his potential, he soon fell down the pecking order. Praveen announced his retirement from all formats in 2018.
