    What's the story

Roger Federer, the tennis GOAT, now has one more title to add to his long list of achievements.

The 36-year-old Basel-born player has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Basel, for his efforts to boost his home city and nation's reputation.

Federer who couldn't attend the ceremony said that the honour "made him as happy as a grand slam title."

    Age-defying victories

    2017, the turnaround year

Roger Federer had a memorable season of tennis this year, especially since it came after an injury-ridden 2016 which forced him to withdraw from the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Federer, whose last major win before the 2017 season began, was the 2012 Wimbledon, went on to win this year's Australian Open, and the Wimbledon, bringing his total grand slam title count to 19.

Apart from the two grand slams this year, Federer also clinched three ATP Masters titles- Indian Well, Miami, and Shanghai. Of the 57 matches he played, he lost just 5 with a winning % of 91.23.

    Beyond expectations

Oldest World Number 2 at 36

At 36, Roger Federer is the oldest World Number 2 in tennis.

Saying that World Number 1 ranking is not his motivation at this age, Federer added, "I have no regrets because I totally over-exceeded my expectations. Just happy I'm injury free and healthy right now, enjoying myself still."

The Swiss hopes to defend his title at the Australian Open come January.
