Samuel Matthew Curran, also known as Sam Curran, is a professional English cricket player who was born on June 3, 1998, in Northamptonshire. The left-handed batsman plays for England and Surrey County Cricket Club. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sam has played for the Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. He is the youngest bowler to take a hat trick in the IPL. In 2018, ICC declared him as one of the five breakout stars in men’s cricket. Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack 2019 also chose him as one of their five Cricketers of the Year. Sam has played 24 Tests and 11 ODIs in his career span. He has played for Surrey in the Under-15, Under-17, and Second XI levels. He had also represented Weybridge in the Surrey Championship Premier Division. In 2015, Sam made his first-class debut against Kent in the County Cricket Championship and took a five-wicket haul in the tournament. His Test debut came in 2018 against Pakistan. In the same year, he made his ODI debut against Australia. In 2019, he made his T20I debut against New Zealand where England won the match by seven wickets.
