What's the story

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh has made history by scoring his first-ever T20 international century. The achievement came during the third and final T20I against New Zealand, leading Australia to a thrilling three-wicket victory at Mount Maunganui on Saturday. Marsh's unbeaten 103 off just 52 balls was instrumental in chasing down New Zealand's total of 157 runs. On this note, we look at the Australian batters with T20I centuries while leading the team.

103* - Mitchell Marsh vs New Zealand, 2025

Marsh's maiden T20I hundred came despite a mid-innings collapse. The opener and Sean Abbott (13*) held their ground to chase down the target. It was a lone hand from Marsh as no other Aussie batter could even touch the 15-run mark. Australia, who were 93/5 at one stage, eventually crossed the line with two overs and three wickets to spare. Marsh hammered seven sixes besides eight fours en route to his unbeaten 52-ball 103.

#2

Aaron Finch - 172 vs Zimbabwe, 2018

The 2018 Harare T20I between Australia and Zimbabwe saw Aaron Finch script history as he scored a breathtaking 172(76), the highest individual T20I score to date. The Australian skipper smoked 16 fours and 10 sixes that day. He added 223 runs for the opening wicket alongside D'Arcy Short (46). The Aussies finished at 229/2 while batting first. Zimbabwe could only manage 129/9 in response.

#1

Shane Watson - 124* vs India, 2016

Former all-rounder Shane Watson was the first Aussie skipper with this landmark. The dasher hammered an unbeaten 124 off 71 balls (10 fours and 6 sixes) against India in the 2016 Sydney affair, propelling his side to 197/5. Watson opened that day and remained unfazed against a strong Indian attack. His 124* is still the highest-individual T20I score by an Australian at home. However, India chased down the target in the final over.
