What's the story

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allowed the parents of 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to accompany him on his maiden international tour. The decision comes ahead of India's white-ball series against Ireland and England, starting June 26. Sooryavanshi was selected for the T20I squad after an impressive IPL 2026 season, where he scored a whopping 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30.

Financial support

Making the young cricketer comfortable

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the board will bear all expenses for Sooryavanshi's parents during the tour. The decision, he said, is aimed at making the young cricketer comfortable and helping him adjust to an adult environment. "When such a young kid is part of the senior team, there are obviously a lot of issues that can crop up," Saikia told PTI.

Analogy

Doing this to ease issues, says Saikia

Saikia compared Sooryavanshi's situation to that of a school student going on an excursion with a senior. He said, "We are doing this because we believe it will ease a lot of issues as far as Vaibhav is concerned." The BCCI Secretary also dismissed rumors about potential action against Sooryavanshi for his recent altercation with Sri Lanka A team player Vishen Halambage.
