Allied Democratic Forces kill at least 33 in North Kivu
A tragic attack in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo saw Islamic State-linked militants kill at least 33 people in Cantine-Aloya village.
The group, known as the Allied Democratic Forces, also set fire to a health post and homes.
This happened in North Kivu province, which is already struggling with an Ebola outbreak.
Conflict slows Ebola and cholera response
The violence disrupted treatment for Ebola patients and comes as the area faces its worst cholera outbreak in decades.
Over 10,000 Ebola cases have been logged so far, and about 1,800 cholera deaths have been reported this year (2026).
Conflict and remoteness are slowing the response to cholera, as they have with Ebola, the WHO said, leaving these areas facing both diseases at once.
Ongoing conflict has made it even harder for health workers to help communities hit by disease and violence.
