Bangladesh's military just rescued at least 57 people, including Rohingya refugees, after a gunfight with suspected human traffickers near the Myanmar border.
The raid happened in Rongikhali, Teknaf, when security forces moved in on an armed gang that had abducted a large group.
Sadly, one Bangladeshi army soldier, Md Titash Sheikh, lost his life during the rescue.
About 120 Rohingya and Bangladeshis abducted
The gang had abducted about 120 people, both Rohingya and Bangladeshis.
While at least 57 were freed, the U.N. is set to rule on Myanmar's actions later this month.
Over 1.2 million Rohingya live in Bangladesh after fleeing violence in Myanmar in 2017, and trafficking networks often target them because of their vulnerable situation.
