California's Great America to close after more than 50 years
California's Great America in Santa Clara is shutting down after more than 50 years of fun.
Six Flags just announced the park will close permanently, with a Farewell Season running until Labor Day 2027, so there's still time for one last roller coaster ride or trip down memory lane.
Lease not renewed after 2024 merger
The park opened back in 1976 and has been a go-to spot for generations. After being sold to Prologis in 2022 and following Cedar Fair's merger with Six Flags in 2024, the company decided not to extend the lease.
Park manager Dave Vosejpka summed it up: "For more than five decades, this Santa Clara theme park has brought people together, created family traditions and served as the backdrop for unforgettable memories."
If you want to revisit your favorite rides, this next season is your chance.
