Cornell Faculty Senate votes no confidence over sexual misconduct handling
Cornell University's Faculty Senate just voted "no confidence" in university leadership, frustrated by how sexual misconduct cases have been handled.
The vote (75 in favor, 50 against) happened on November 6, 2026, and is meant to push trustees to fix what professors see as ongoing problems.
Chi Phi lawsuit prompts multiple probes
The tipping point was a lawsuit from a former student who said she was drugged and assaulted by former members of the Chi Phi fraternity at a fraternity house in October 2024.
While the first investigation found no evidence of a crime, the case has since been reopened and handed to New York's attorney general.
Cornell did its own Title IX review and disciplined some students.
Now, an independent probe led by former US Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates is also looking into how Cornell responded. Its findings could shape future campus policies.
