More than 1.56 million US green card applications face backlog
World
Right now, more than 1.56 million applications for US green cards are caught in a major backlog, according to the latest numbers from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
The wait is especially tough in states like Florida, California, and Texas (think cities like Tampa, Los Angeles, and Houston), where some of the largest concentrations of these applications are handled.
Humanitarian applications about 40% of backlog
Humanitarian applications make up the largest share of this backlog (about 40%), with family-based requests close behind and employment-based ones trailing.
USCIS says it is sticking to strict screening standards even though approval rates have dipped a bit lately, highlighting just how challenging it has become to get through this process right now.
