Nepal PM Balen Shah to seek $2 billion from India
Nepal's Prime Minister Balen Shah is heading to India later this month, hoping to secure a $2 billion support package from India.
The plan? Get funding and grants to help Nepal upgrade its infrastructure and recover from recent disasters, a move that highlights the close ties and ongoing talks between the two neighbors.
Package includes credit lines and infrastructure
The proposed package includes $1 billion in credit lines for power and other infrastructure projects, plus $500 million each for fixing up the Siddhartha Highway and helping communities hit by floods.
Shah will also talk with Indian leaders about opening more air routes to Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa and Pokhara International Airport, and check on progress of the Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project, conceived under the 1996 Mahakali Treaty.
