Qatar prime minister seeks de-escalation between US and Iran
Qatar's prime minister is stepping up as a go-between for the US and Iran, hoping to calm things down in the region.
Al Jazeera TV reported on Saturday that he shared, "We cannot wait to reach a perfect agreement; we hope to reach a good agreement," highlighting the push for real progress over perfection.
Even after the midterm elections, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said the US administration remained willing to find a solution.
Qeshm strike reports, Iran warns retaliation
Things are tense: there were reports of missile strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island and Iran has warned it will hit back if attacked by the US or Israel.
Tehran put forward a plan that includes lifting a blockade of Iranian ports and approving an Iranian-backed route through the Strait of Hormuz, but so far it has been rejected by Trump.
Still, Qatar's efforts are keeping talks alive and aiming for some much-needed de-escalation soon.
