Strong Santa Ana winds raise wildfire risk across Southern California
Heads up, Southern California: strong Santa Ana winds are rolling in this weekend, and that means a high risk of wildfires.
The National Weather Service has issued red-flag warnings across fire-prone portions of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, including the Santa Monica Mountains, western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 corridor, from 2am Saturday through 6pm Saturday, with wind gusts possibly hitting 89km/h.
These conditions make it much easier for fires to start and spread quickly.
Southern California Edison may cut power
To help prevent fires sparked by damaged power lines, Southern California Edison might cut power for about 4,900 customers.
Fire departments are ramping up staff and resources just in case, and Los Angeles is putting red-flag parking restrictions in place starting Saturday morning, so double-check your evacuation plans if you're in the area.
Coastal areas under high surf advisories
It's not just inland: coastal spots are facing high surf and flooding advisories until Wednesday. Expect big waves (over eight feet).
There's a chance of rain by November 13 that could help out a bit, but forecasts aren't set yet.
